THEME 08 Reversal 

Reversal means ‘going against’. It may also imply going against what is conventional and not following the usual rules. Reversal is a way of being contradictory or challenging the status quo. It may turn out to be disadvantageous to the present situation or going against what is natural. Some examples include, backlighting (lighting shone on the back of an object instead of the front), headwind (or may also mean a phenomena that is against the conventional and portrayed as negative), upstream of water flow or a trend deemed to be negative, a disadvantageous situation, not keeping one’s promise or doing something that is seen as unorthodox…

 

In the fashion world, searching for elements of ‘reversal’ implies going for what is unconventional, unnatural, abnormal, reversing, doing what is usually deemed as impossible or futuristic…the motive is to create something that is extraordinary and yet allows one to be astonished and wowed by it.

Going against the trend is also a form of reversal. 

 

CALLING FOR THEMATIC WORK

Creative and fashion-based, “Uphold the Original, Express Yourself” is our mission. SCENE magazine is calling for professional hairstylists, makeup artists, fashion designers, photographers and students to participate in SCENE’s solicit activity of thematic works, outstanding works and awards winning works. We will provide a fair and open platform to feature your work.

 

THEMATIC WORK REQUIRMENTS

1. There is no set limit to the thematic works submission.
2. Submitted works should have brief description, time of creation or backstage photos.
3. SCENE only accepts digital images in picture format of TIFF, JPG, 300dpi pixels, CMYK, with the measurement of 216mm (V) x 291mm (H) or 426mm (V) x291mm (H), for double pages.
4. Submitted works are deemed authorization to SCENE to circulate it through any media, for archive and re-use. The Publisher reserves the rights to publish,
to determine preferred publication and priority right.
5. SCENE reserves the editorial rights without editing the content of the photos. Meaning: the content of the photo remains unchanged, the Publisher reserves the right to scale up,
scale down or use only partial of the photo.
6. All works must be original; any form of plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
7. Submission deadline: 20 September 2011
